Synopsis

Painted in red, the word “VON” is all that is left behind after a terrorist attack on a nuclear facility in Japan. The government is shattered by their inability to act, and the police are left frantically searching for ways to crack down the perpetrators. The public are clueless—until, six months later, a strange video makes its way onto the internet. In it, two teenage boys who identify themselves only as “Sphinx” directly challenge the police, threatening to cause destruction and mayhem across Tokyo. Unable to stop the mass panic quickly spreading through the city and desperate for any leads in their investigation, the police struggle to act effectively against these terrorists, with Detective Kenjirou Shibazaki caught in the middle of it all.

Zankyou no Terror tells the story of Nine and Twelve, the two boys behind the masked figures of Sphinx. They should not exist, yet they stand strong in a world of deception and secrets while they make the city fall around them, all in the hopes of burying their own tragic truth.

Zankyou no Terror is one of those anime, where even if the protagonist, Nine and Twelve, of the series could be considered as the bad guys of the story , they are terrorist after all, but their background story attract the sympathy of the viewer. They didn’t use the best way to make their statement, however it’s probably the most effective way to do it.Even so Nine and Twelve knew the risk of it, they still stick to their plan.  The two boys are maybe not heroes, but they do when they could to make the world aware of what the government did.

I loved Nine and Twelve, despite being really different from one of the other, the personality are really not alike, they don’t seems to clash often. Guess the only time Nine really wanted to punch Twelve was when the latter gave the information about where they hide the plutonium to save Lisa. He felt betrayed by the only person we could trust. I must say I felt really bad for him. Even if he show a lot of anti-social trait, I like Nine persona. As for Twelve, he somehow remind me a lot of Nagisa from the anime series Free!, he got the same kind of cheerful personality yet disillusioned mind.  I like pretty most of the character, even Lisa who was like a burden to them, until Five appear, I wasn’t sad at all when she died.

Do not watch this anime thinking it’s full of action, cause even if there is a certain level of action scene, but the main point of the anime it more at a psychological level.

  1. I really enjoyed this anime. The art was really good & Nine and Twelve are awesome. It was a short series, but it left a deep impression on me. I cried when both died. Like you, though, I didn’t feel sad when Five died.
