Synopsis

The world of tennis is harsh and highly competitive. Numerous schools from Japan battle it out to determine the best of the best.

Seishin Gakuen Junior High School, more commonly known as Seigaku, is one of the most prominent contestants in this battle of the finest. Their team line-up gets even stronger with the sudden arrival of a young prodigy from the West, Ryouma Echizen, who is determined to prove himself and escape the towering shadow of his legendary father. This fine addition changes the team forever.

Prince of Tennis follows the heartwarming and inspirational story of Ryouma on his quest to become one of the best tennis players the country has ever seen. He pushes himself hard so that he can one day surpass his father’s name and his own personal expectations. Alongside the rest of the Seigaku team, Ryouma fights to make his and his teammate’s dreams come true.

Prince of Tennis can really be considerate as a franchise, with the two manga series, the two anime series and the twenty-seven OVA and we can add to that two movie and a stage play. The stage play happen every year and present various act of the series by the way.

Prince of Tennis is the first manga and anime series with a sport theme I watched. Since then, I watched Kuroko no Basuke, Haikyuu!!, Yuri!!! on Ice and All Out!!. Since TeniPuri is the of the kind, this series will always have a nice warm place in my heart.

Of Course we are talking about a sport anime/manga series, so there is nothing really complicated about it. the boys are playing tennis, however sometimes I wonder if there is not a bit of fantasy mixed with it, all the weird “attack”/”defense” trick they have, the Tezuka Zone is freaking vortex how in the world is that possible? Never played tennis but I never saw a professional using this technique. Okay it’s not because I never saw it that it doesn’t exist (I believe in ghost but never saw one…guess it’s the same thing here).

Even if sometimes I doubted of the shot, there is a bunch of interesting character with quite different personality and obviously the main character, Ryoma Echizen, need to be one of the most cocky of the group at least his play can support all that pretension. I actually love the whole main team of Seigaku, they are really likable. Even player of rival team are great.

My only complain about the show in the fact that even if Ryoma lost, only against his captain tho (and his father and brother…he is always losing against his father) ,  the whole team of Seigaku never lost a match. They have lost set, but never a match. I would have been nice seeing them struggling a bit more to reach the National, like Karasuno volleyball team of Haikyuu and Seirin basketball team of Kuroko no Basuke. Beside that little thing, I really enjoyed this series. Although I knew they were winning their match, I was still stressed to see them play.
