When I noticed Atome: The Beginning was the prequel of Astro Boy/Astro Boy 1980, I realized that I forgot to make a Throwback Thursday post on the series.

I know the original series aired between January 1963 and December 1966 and counted 193 episodes, but I’m a child from the 80′, thus I decide to present you the 1980 version.

This is an other older series I should take the time to re watch, I do remembered I quite enjoyed it when I was young. The series is really simple even if Astro background story if not full of happiness. A scientific, who had lost his sons, invent a little robot that look like his late little boy but upon realizing the robot will never grow-up, he decide to discard him and sell is creation to a robot circus. Eventually Astro will meet the Professor Ochanomizu, he teach him the meaning of Justice and good deed. In pretty much each episode something happen in the city but Astro is always there to save the day. As I said, it’s simple and generic, but it was fun to watch.

  1. I tried watching Astro Boy as an adult and unlike Sailor Moon, I just couldn’t take it. Even the nostalgia lens didn’t save it. I remember how much fun it was as a kid and the English opening was one of my favourite theme songs to sing along to, but it just didn’t age very well.

  2. I saw Astro Boy years ago when it was running on Adult Swim, it came on at like 4 in the morning, right after Eureka 7 (or was it before)… It’s cute, but definitely one of those anime that are hard to watch once you reach a certain age. But, that English opening… yeah, man it would always get stuck in my head!!
