Corruption looms over the prosperous Russell City, where manifestations of negative emotions called Horrors cause chaos and mayhem. The Makai Order is the last bastion of hope against these unholy creatures. Using several small businesses as fronts, they deploy powerful Makai Knights and magical Makai Alchemists to combat the Horror threat.

Within this secretive order, the highest rank of Golden Knight has been bestowed upon a large, powerful man named Sword, granting him use of the Garo armor and blade. He alone knows of a plot that threatens the entire Makai Order, with his only hint being the phrase “El Dorado.” While fighting a Horror, he encounters Sophia “Sophie” Hennis, a teenage girl whose brother’s disappearance years ago is also linked to the same phrase. The two agree to work together to uncover the truth behind “El Dorado” and the disappearance of Sophie’s brother.

Before coming across Vanishing Line installment, I never heard about the Garo franchise, now that I know about it I’m curious to watch the movies and other series (some of them are available on HiDive for now, so yay!). Garo: Vanishing Line was definitely one of my favorite series from Fall 2017. I was pleasantly surprised by it, I surely didn’t thought I would like it as much as I liked it.

It does take sometimes before getting a real good understanding of what is happening and what are the Horrors, however you don’t have to watch the other installments to be able to watch Vanishing Line which is a plus for the series. The story in itself doesn’t have anything wow, we follow the main characters, Sword, Sophia, Luke and Gina ,who try to find information about El Dorado fight one Horror at the time. You can imagine a video game with minions, bosses and final boss and each case are like stage. The horror encounter in each case are like the minion. There is 3 bosses who each have their role (Knight, Queen and Bishop) and out main characters will obviously have to fight them before getting to King and El Dorado. I said it the story is sample, it’s the fight sequence and the character that makes it interesting. While Sword doesn’t change much from the first time we meet him to the end, Sophia and Luke are the one who will change the most through the story. Plus we have Gina who is a strong independent woman, but with a soft side.

The visual that was what appealed to me the most, each horror had their own nightmare-ish design, the amount of details was amazing and the fighting sequence were incredible. I think Madhouse did an amazing job for this one.

I would not be afraid to recommend the series to anyone who look for something easy to watch, while having some great action scene and a lot of blood.

  1. I saw the first five episodes of this one at this year’s animecon in my country and I really enjoyed it. I definitely want to finish this show as it’s been on hold a bit for quite a while now. Nice to know that overall it’s worth checking out, and after having read this, I’m moving this one up a few spaces on my to watch list😊
