OWLS | An Ode to Fan Content Creators

Hello Everyone!
It’s me Mel!

After taking a break in October, I am now back with a new OWLS post, but before talking this month prompt, I have to explain to the new face what is OWLS.

OWLS stand for Otaku Warrior for Liberty and Self-Respect, we are a group of blogger and vlogger who promotes the acceptance of everyone regardless of their gender, sexuality, ethnicity, religion and disabilities. Each month Lyn (Something About LynLyn) our awesome Chief Creator, give us a prompt and we have to explore it using the pop-culture.

As I mentioned above, I haven’t participated in the October tour (which kind of bothered be a little, even more after thinking about something I could have talk about after the tour begins) so I really wanted to participate to the November tour.

Since November it’s Thanksgiving season (in the US not sure around the world) the November prompt is:

Here at OWLS, we are pretty thankful that we are able to come together as a community and share a love and appreciation for anime and manga. This month we will be showcasing our appreciation by giving a shout out post to our favorite manga artists, creators, production companies, and writers who produced some of our favorite works. We will be discussing our favorite works by these creators and our reasons as to why we appreciate them.

When I saw the prompt I knew what I would talk about or more who I will talk about, I thought I knew. However after finishing my draft (before the sign-up sheet was out) I thought of something else….

Something that light up my days, people who give me inspiration to write and draw, the fan content creator, in other word the fan artist and fan fiction writers.

If you follow me on Twitter you know what I’m talking about, you probably saw appearing wildly on your feed random fanart of unwanted pairing (I’m really sorry about that btw) that I liked or retweet.

Sometimes it can also be a whole headcanon thread, or short thread story (I must admit I love those). Today for my OWLS post I will tell you why I love some of those artists and writers

Thank You for Lightning Up my Day

There is day I just feel like not going to work, there is day that work was just hell and I just feel like ditching everything. It’s during those time that I need something to cheer me up and I know I will find that on my Twitter. Not gonna lie, I’m a simple girl with simple need and it’s quite easy to please me. Seeing beautiful fan art when I opened my Twitter, sometimes it’s an email from Patreon cause an artist post something new (which is mostly NSFW) just make me smile. I just can’t help to hit the like or retweet icon to show my appreciation and when I feel a little be more adventurous I will leave a comment. It will either start my day on a good note or end it on a good note (no matter what happened during the day).

I cannot name all of the artists that I’m following , the point is not to promote them (okay maybe be a little), however lately the two who have caught my attention are Tinogeb and Megane, both are mainly  drawing My Hero Academia fanart either Deku or Kacchan sometimes it’s both together in not for child position.

I choose the safest one to post here (even if I do write NSFW fanfic) since it’s an OWLS post.

I really want to thank the fan artists all around the world for sharing their piece of artwork with the other fan.
Continue the great job and don’t let the negative comment hurting you.

Thank You for Making Me Feel All Sort of Emotion.

Fanarts are not the only form of art that can be created by the fan, fan fiction are also part of the content created by the fan for the fan. The amount of story you can find for one series is amazing, you can pass hours browsing fan fiction hosting website reading story, forgetting to get to bed (I’m not like that, but I know someone who is like that)

I read some fan fiction from various series and they all have their little something that makes them amazing Zoe from Let’s Talk Anime wrote a really sweet Todoroki/Deku and Zel from ARCHI-ANIME wrote a steamy Kise/Kuroko (This one is 18+)

The latest that I have read is from an author who also write a lot of short story thread on Twitter which are all from My Hero Academia some are an alternative universe (AU) other are just domestic Bakugo/Deku with their cute little girl Katsumi (bow down in front of the explosive nerdy princess).
Xai wrote probably the funniest fanfic I have read so far (The Devil Ship Zeku) I need more than one hand to count the moment where I was laughing to the point I was crying.

I will never thanks them enough for those laugh and all the thread story posted.
Thank you for making me laugh to the point of crying, thank you to all the fanfic author who share their idea with us the other fan.

Thank You for the Interactions, Inspiration and Motivation

The fan content creator, light up my days and make me feel emotion with their story.
But the main reason why I feel like thanking them it’s more the inspiration and the motivation they are giving me.

If it wasn’t of Xai story, “The Devil Ship ZeKu” I would have never have thought to draw Midoriya wearing a Groud Zero light in the dark t-shirt and their story thread with their OC, Kastumi (Deku and Kacchan daughter) just pushed me to write a fanfic about it. But what motivated me the most is the interaction some of the artist have together. Seeing them commenting and cheering up on each other just makes me smile.

I must also admit that when they are replying to one my comment or just “like” it, it make me happy cause my thought didn’t go unnoticed. The fan of their work in me is just extremely happy, this mean they are taking the time to read the comment left on their tweets/drawing even if they, like all of us, have other thing to do.

Just want to thanks all the fan content creator for giving me the motivation and inspiration to write and draw.

I want to thanks all the fan artists and fan fiction writer for lighting up my day with their beautiful drawing, I want to thanks them from making feeling emotion through their story and for giving me the motivation to contribute to different fandom.

Fan content creator share their work and idea with the other fan and despite the hurtful comment they still do it and I really want to thanks them for that, for continuing to share their passion with the other fan.

This was my OWLS post for November, for those you are curious about the post I wrote before (the first idea I had) I can share the draft with you (don’t expect a lot of it tho, it’s really just a draft)

If you didn’t read Lyn post that was published yesterday be sure to read it and don’t forget to look out from Fred post scheduled for the 24th !! And you can find the whole tour schedule here

~ Thank you for Reading ~

  1. Well, thank you! for creating wonderful fan art too. Your wonderfully, smutty fictions are just so awesome. You are my inspiration. If it weren’t for you I hadn’t started to write fan fiction again. (Now I just have to finish it too but yeah, let’s talk about that some other time 🙄)

  2. I feel like…you’re calling me out as the person who forgets to sleep because of fanfiction. And it’s true. Almost every day. This was a wonderful post! Thanks for the mention LOL 😂 I hope to continue to share our BKDK love for fanfics and art for a long time 😉
