Welcome back to another OWLS post.
Before giving you the topic of this month, I have to tell you what is OWLS.
OWLS stand for Otaku Warrior for Liberty and Self-Respect, we are a group of blogger and vlogger who promote the acceptance of everyone, regardless of the genre, sexual orientation, ethnicity, religion and disabilities.
Each month we explore different topic using the pop culture as support.
Since February is the month of love, our dear Lyn came hope with the topic of , Adore
“ In February, we will be exploring love and romance. The word selected is “adore” because it has two main connotations: to be loved and respected or to feel worshipped. We will analyze characters that give us a feeling of admiration and explain why we love those characters. We will also be exploring different forms of love (familial, friendship, and even self-love) and how those types of love influence our lives.
Happy Valentine’s Day! “
When I saw the topic, I wasn’t sure if I would take part of this tour. To be honest, love and romantic stuff is not a genre a go for, book, movie, tv show, I’m just don’t go toward that.
So I had to look at the list of series I watched to see if I could find something. Obviously I found since I’m writing this post.
Card Captor Sakura is one of the few shoujo I watched and read, I watched it with my little sister when it first began airing on the French-Canadian television. I rewatch it later for nostalgia and got excited about the new arc (even if we have no clue when we will see the end of this new arc)
I thought this series could be a good choice since the show explore different type of love, however despite being different it all lead at the same thing, it make one stronger.
The Power of Friendship
People will come and go in our life, some of those people come pretty early and stay for long, you grew close to them, they become dear friend for you. You like those friend like if they were part of your family, you will do anything to protect them.
This how Sakura was with her friend, she really loved all of them and she was always ready to get into some danger in order to protect them. Sakura always improve and get stronger through the series, but she surpass herself when one of her friend is in danger. She didn’t hesitate to get between Syaoran and Rika when the latter was possessed by the Sword Card, the last thing she wanted is to see her friend getting hurt. I always feel like Sakura was at her best when her friends was in danger, even in the latest Arc, The Clear Card Arc, Sakura did everything she could to make sure her friend was always save when a wild card appeared. The love she had for her friends gave her the power to get stronger.
We might choose our friends, but we can’t choose our family, so having a good relationship with them is really important. Sometimes your brother or sister can appear really annoying and seem to have a lot of fun to make fun of you, but in the end you really care for each other,
The relation between Sakura and her big brother Touya is a warm one, they might fight and argue on a daily basis, but is something about to one of them, the other will get really worried.
Touya would always make sure his little sister will okay. He knew when she doesn’t feel well even if Sakura doesn’t say it. He just feel it, like he feel like something bad happen to her and he was always ready to put himself in danger to save her, like at the aquarium accident with the Water card. Same goes the other way around, when the Mirror card appear and try to trick him by taking Sakura appearance, Sakura knew something happen to her brother after reading the card, her love for her big brother made her figure out that something happened to her big brother.
Touya said it himself , Sakura is his precious treasure, he will do anything for her, even if this mean to let his own magical power goes. When this wanted his biggest worried was the fact that he wouldn’t be able to know when she need him.
I think the best example of how love can make one stronger is the relation between Syaoran and Sakura, relation that was rocky at first, then become a friendship,, before turning into a mutual love.
It’s the love Sakura have for Syaoran that allowed her to created the Nameless Card (a winged-heart) was created at the end of the second arc, when Syaoran is about to leave and it’s this same love that make the Nothing card and Nameless card fusion to create the Hope card when Syaoran vanished. The love Sakura have for Syaoran definitely made the young girl strong and this wasn’t a one way love.
After realizing his feeling for the one that was his rival, Syaoran always look out for Sakura, protecting her as much as he could even he if perfectly knew he wasn’t as strong as her. Knowing that when he return to Hong Kong , be began to train to unlock new power.
He knew something bad would happen to Sakura in the future and he wanted to be ready to be able to fight by her side, we see how powerful he got in the new arc, while we still don’t know yet about what he did or what he is planning, neither why, we can see that he is scare for Sakura and he is ready to do everything he can, even if that mean to risk is life during train.
Card Captor Sakura show us the many face of love and how this feeling can make you strong, I could also have talk about Yue and Kerobero and how, their love for their new master made them stronger, enough to beat Ruby Moon and Spinel Sun.
