Hope you are all doing well today!
For today’s Music in Monday post, Mr. iPod decided to stop its choice on another Korean song, I Need You by Kim SungKyu.
First of all you need to know that this song is my all time favorite from him, I just adore it and I would recommend it to anyone who want to start digging SungKyu discography. If you want to “feel” his voice this is the song to go.
He always been good at conveying sorrowful feeling through song and I Need You is not an exception, the first time I hear it I teared up, not I get even more emotional since the drummist (we see him in the music video) pass away a year after the release of the song, they were both good friend and SunKyu got really affected by his death; he sang this song not long after the death of his friend in a concert and you can clearly sense how emotional he is.
I Need You is a soft rock ballad that just make me stop what I am doing when it play, I will not say that it make me creamy, but I do get lost in my thought when I listen to it.
The verse are kind of…minimalistic? There is not a lot going on in a sense that it’s mostly SungKyu voice carrying it with a very few instrument, more are added during the chorus but the focus is still on his voice. Sometimes even in ballad, the voice of the signer can get buried by the instrument but not this time, which is perfect since I’m a sucker for his voice.
As I said, if you want to look into Kim SungKyu discography, I Need You is a must, it is different from his main titles but it still very him.
On that note I will wish you a great week
